NFL Realignment??

We are coming to the end of the NFL season unfortunately... that means my saddest time of year is just around the corner. I cant express the emptiness I feel when the clock turns to 00:00 on Super Bowl Sunday. One of the intriguing issues on the horizon for the NFL will be satisfying the need for an L.A. based franchise. Its hard to imagine the NFL expanding again anytime soon since they successfully accomplished the balanced they needed when Houston was awarded the Texans 10 years ago. An issue that confuses me is the geographical deltas that exist within divisions. I understand the desire to maintain certain rivalries but I think that a considerable shake up could breath even more live into the NFL. I came up with a realignment that would be geographically more suitable for NFL franchises but didn't completely do away with some of the traditional rivalries.

AFC

EAST- Patriots~Jets~Buffalo~Tennessee

NORTH-  Steelers~Bengals~Cleveland~Indianapolis

SOUTH-  Miami~Jacksonville~Carolina~Atlanta

WEST-  St. Louis~Kansas City~Denver~Oakland

NFC

EAST-  Giants~Eagles~Redskins~Ravens

NORTH-  Packers~Bears~Vikings~Lions

SOUTH-  Saints~Buccanneers~Texans~Cowboys

WEST-  49ers~Arizona~Seattle~ L.A. Chargers

There you have it... I am sure a lot of folks will not agree or like what I came up with but I think the new line ups would inject more interest. Like we saw with the lockout... theres nothing that could make NFL fans go away for ever. Moves made now a days are about increasing the interest of new fans and drawing more people to what is already the greatest Sports League in the country. Old rivalries would still be played at the minimum of every three years within a conference. So all those people who love the traditional NFC East matchups of the G-men and the Cowboys, it would still  be seen every 3 years if they didnt finish in the same position in their respective divisions if not in the playoffs.
Some AFL purest may not want to see the Chargers leave for the NFC West but i think that long term it would benefit the league. I had considered putting the Seahawks back into the AFC West but I was much more excited about the idea of the Chiefs and Rams having 2 games a year and creating that rivalry.
I was very excited about seeing the Ravens in the NFC East. The Ravens personality as a franchise fits perfectly into that blue collar division. All four franchises would be right on top of eachother and I could see tons of bad blood being developed between the Ravens and Eagles or Redskins. The Battle of the Beltway would be great for the NFL.

Another dramatic change I would propose would be to alter the matrix of how the NFL Schedule is developed. For those unfamiliar with its process let me review:
Every year a given team must play:
~~ Each opponent within their division twice (6games)
~~ Every team from a predetermined division within the NFC and AFC (8 games)
~~ A game against another team within their conference from the remaining two divisions that were not part of the predetermined rotation, that finished in the same position in the standings the previous season. (2games)

This formula gives a team 12 games within their conference and 4 games against the other conference. Under my new formula that would remain intact but there would be a fairer balance of teams playing opposition closer to their level based on previous season results. Currently playing a "3rd place" schedule is really only a differance of 2 games compared to the first place team.
My new Scheduling format would go as follows.
~~ Each opponent within their division twice (6games)
~~Within a conference each 1st and 2nd  place teams would play one another from other divisions (6games)
~~Interconference matchups would be based on previous years finish. Each 1st place teams would play the other conference's 1st  place teams from every division and so and so forth (4games)

This year the Eagles played :   AFC East + NFC East + NFC West + Bears + Falcons

Under my new formula they would have played:   NFC East + Bear,Packers + Falcons, Saints + Seattle,St Louis + Patriots + Pittsburgh + Indy + Kansas City

The idea is to truly have teams see the benefit of playing a 1st place schedule. It may create more balance within the league and we would see even more turnover of teams who make the playoffs every year. Right now there is usually 5 new teams every year... I assume that number would increase

Holiday Musing

Seasons Greetings Readers... (probably reader is more appropriate)
The holiday season is upon us once again. I hope everyone got their credit cards good and jacked all the hell as I did.  This xmas is pretty special since my kids are ages 3 and 4... they have discovered Rudolph, Santa, Frosty, and the Grinch. I cant wait to see their face light up on Christmas Day Morning when they see the presents under the tree. Those two are truly magically beings that give me the perspective I need during those times when life tosses  a shit sandwhich on my plate. Its truly amazing the lengths a parent will go to shield a child from the ugliness of life. I suppose its also out of selfishness that I do it to... You see, when I see my kids enjoying the simpliest of things with the highest of exuberance it fills me with happiness. Their souls are still so pure because they believe the world is full of happiness and optimism. They havent been beaten down by all the negativity that corrodes our souls. Children dont understand or see corruption. They see the good in everything. I will do everything in my power to allow them to sustain that good hearted nature because its cleansing for me to see that glimmer in their eyes that I lost so long ago. Being a parent is about giving the next generation opportunities you didnt have. Its about reviewing your own childhood and adulthood and passing on the positives you were fortunate enough to have experienced and minimizing the possibility of your kids having to suffer from the same pitfalls that caused you harm.
I guess that my two cents for the hoidays and parenthood. God Bless and enjoy you Christmas

NFL REVIEW

Hey everybody... thanks for checking back in. Today I am gonna blow off a little steam about a few topics related to my favorite sport in this world... the NFL.
I suppose I will get the angst of my fanhood out of the way first in relation to my beloved Cowboys. They lost a tough one in Foxboro to the Patriots on Sunday. The Defense played out of their minds the whole game but got leaned on one too many times as Tom Brady did his best Joe Montana impersonation and led the Pats to a great win against my Boys. Romo played well and everyone wants to give the coach shit for being so tight assed down the stretch. But in all honesty if he decides to go for throat and toss the ball around like he did against Detroit and Romo gets picked off... then they would say he was a dumbass for putting Romo in that spot. I like the way the Boys played. They showed a ton of heart and I can assure you all that there isnt a team in the NFC that wants this team to hit their stride in late december. The offensive line is young and could be a much more solid unit by Xmas. If the run game comes around and they find the right rhythm they could be a dangerous team. It doesnt seem like they have learned to work as a solid group up front. They are all talented  but they just havent gelled yet. Romo is another story all together. I like they guy. People who scream for him to lose his job have a short memory of the nightmare it was at QB before he took over for Bledsoe. The endless parade of disfuctional no-talents riddled the Cowboys roster started when Arrington hit Aikman on the sideline. Cunningham, Wright, Carter, Stoener, Leaf, Testaverde, Hutchinson, Henson, etc.. the list goes on and on. Romo has brought excitement and yes... even some stability. I like the leadership he has exhibited this year. The one thing I know about being a cowboy fan is that its never as bad as the media makes it seem and its never as good. The Cowboys are a polarizing organization and people either lovem or hatem.... I dont expect them to win the Super Bowl this year but I am proud to see that under Jason Garrett this team is competitive every game and they play with passion and intensity. They dont get blown out of any games and they have enough talent to play with anyone in the NFL.
Staying inside the NFC East is a good idea for the next topic. The eagles went to Washington and finally didnt shit their pants in the 4th qtr. Thanks to Rex Grossman spotting them 4 INTs, the Iggles walked out with a division road win. Anytime you can snatch one on the road in your own division you have dealt the other team a huge shit sandwhich. The Giants had an impressive victory over the very game Buffalo Bills. It looks like the feel good Bills could be coming back to reality. They were a sexy story at the beginning of the season but with the poor defense they play it will eventually come back to be their un-doing. Their Offense isnt that dynamic to sustain this success. This league gets film on you and it isnt long before opposing DCs find a away to take away what you do best. Kudos to the Giants for bouncing back after shitting the bed against Seattle the week before... I swear they tanked just to bang my suicide pool... assholes.
One pleasant surprise for me has been the Cincinnati Bengals. I thought this team would maybe win 3-5 games this year... Rookie QB and WR.. a RB who likes prison and a no name O line.. I figured they would struggle. Looks like Marvin Lewis and Mike Brown figured out that less is more sometimes in the NFL. Saying goodbye to Ocho-Cinco, Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson, and Terrell Owens has agreed with this team. The Locker Room is less of a circus and this team is back to being focused on winning football games more so than reality shows and police blotters... Getting 2 possible 1st rd picks for Carson Palmer was a great deal for them as well. I hope both parties get what they are looking for in that trade. Good for them.
Lastly I wanna touch upon the Lions and 49ers game... or rather post game. After one of the better contests of the weekend where the 49ers never quit and fought hard to comeout victorious against the previously undefeated Lions, Inexplicably Jim Harbaugh the coach of the 49ers decides he needs to act like a rotten 9 year old. I understand the excitement of your team clawing out a tough win ont he road but dude, seriously. Act like a pro and a grown up. He jumps up and down for a few seconds and is ripping his shirt out of his pant, then sprints across the field jumping around like a moron. He reaches Jim Schwartz, the coach of the Lions, and decides to whip snap handshake the guy and blast him in the back in the process with his off hand. All the while shouting an explicitive and whoopin like he is Rick Flair at the Monday after the Masters Tourney in MB. Just the way Tom Landry and George Halas would have drawn it up. Schwartz takes exception to it and you can see him mouth the words "WTF?"... Schwartz chases him down and gives him a nudge and must have relayed his displeasure with Harbaughs actions... Harbaugh can be seen as saying "get out of my face!" multiple times... Hey Jimbo why dont you get your head out of your ass and realize you acted like an asshole. Maybe apologize for being a jerk and you could have avoided almost having a brawl in the postgame. Since when is it acceptable for a coach to act like this? Schwartz would have been well within his means to jack him up. It would have been better to see one of the Lions players take Harbaugh out and blast him with a form tackle... If Harbaugh want to act like he is still playing then perhaps they should accomodate him and lay his ass out.  Grow up.. Man up... your 49.. not 9

Greetings Readers

As inspired by my esteemed brother in-law I have decided to try my hand at this blogging thing. If your at all amused by his blog (http://www.mywiferuns.com/)... then theres a good chance you may enjoy whatever childish and idiotic musings I may conjure up. Afterall.... we are family.

Not all of my postings will be completely moronic.. even I am forced to spew something of tangibility from time to time. We all know that not all of life is to be laughed at... just most of it.

A little background would suffice at this time I suppose...
I was raised in upstate NY where I unfortunately still reside. I have lived within 20miles of my birthplace for my entire life and quite honestly its waring on my ass in a bad way. I graduated HS somehow despite my best efforts to do as little as humanly possible to excel at anything other than Class Clownery and athletics. To me there are two types of people in this world... People who think I am funny and People with no sense of humor. If you didnt at least chuckle at that last line you already know which category you fall into! I have been working in the Electrical Generating and Transmission Industry since 1995.. the same year I finished high school. I live by the expression that "I dont live to work... I work to live"... I doubt I will ever be one of those people that cant get enough of going to work... Unless of course I win some sort of lottery and I can coach football and raise my kids as my "job"... Until then I will just start my countdown everyday I go to work as to when I can go home and do whats most important to me... be daddy

The accomplishment I am most proud of n this life is being a father. I have two beautiful children of whom I would easily lay my life down for. I became a father over 4 years ago already and its been the highlight of my life. I cant imagine my life without these little boogers... they truly keep me going. The greatest thing about being a parent is that no matter how shitty your day is going.. no matter what asshole is bugging you at work... No matter what bill is over due or however life is kicking you in the friggin nuts..... when I walk in that door and my little girl wraps her arms around my neck and my son rubs my face and says he loves me... all that shit goes away. There are a few people on this earth that should buy my kids all the toys they want because if not for them to ease my pain... there certainly would have been numerous ambulance rides for some folks!
I am a huge fan of sports... Baseball, football, golf, MMA...etc... I love most sports. I cant stand watching womans basketball, any kind of soccer. I can watch a little womens college volleyball but I honestly have no idea whats happening nor do i care... its like watching telemundo... just stare and smile, stare and smile : )
There will be a great many times during my blogging that I go off on tangents about my bleoved Cowboys. Thankfully for you the reader... you can simply ignore it and skip it!
I dont have any poiltical views so dont expect me to use this as some sort of delussional soapbox platform. For those of you enjoy all that bullshit.,.. here is my take... It doesnt matter who is in the white house or congress. They are all crooks who's sole purpose is to misappropriate our tax dollars and pound the fur off the american people. These idiots on TV who pontificate about the politicians are just as worthless. Over educated hate mongers who incite anger in people who share their same politcal motivations.. there are plenty of these jerkoffs on both sides of the equation. my take would be to ignore them as best as you can. Worry about shit that is within your control and you will live a lot longer.

I suppose thats enough for my intro! See ya on the Flip...L8R
